Our Mission
History
In 2010, the original Brotherhood was started by a group of police officers from Chicago. In 2015, a group of NYPD officers started the New York City chapter.
Our Mission
Our chapter will send at least two uniformed members of the NYPD in dress uniform, to every funeral in the United States where a law enforcement officer has been killed by an offender. They also will present a check to the family of the fallen officer, while offering members of the fallen department morale support during difficult times.
It is important that we support the Thin Blue Line, and let the families know that we will honor their loved ones and never forget the ultimate sacrifice they made while serving their community.
What we do?
Brotherhood for the Fallen is a non profit 501(c)3 fraternal charity, which is composed of active members of the NYPD. We send our members to police combat line of duty funerals throughout the United States. There is no out of pocket expense for our members. Our organization pays for most of the travel expenses, including airfare, hotel and rental car. Traveling members utilize their own time while representing the Department and Organization on a funeral deployment. Our members attend the wake and funeral services, continuing the long tradition of supporting fallen officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. The presence of our members in distant areas of the country by NYPD officers gives emotional encouragement to the family of the fallen officer and his/her fellow officers. While at the services, our officers present the family with a monetary gift to help with their immediate financial needs. In turn, our officers are enriched and return to their duties with a refreshed sense of pride in their uniform.
Finances
We are a NY non-profit corporation and we are officially recognized by the IRS as a tax exempt, 501(c)(3) public charity. We strictly rely on raising funds through membership dues, fundraising events and generous donors. Our members and executive board officers are all active members of the NYPD and receive no salary or benefits for their time, it is 100% volunteering, therefore allowing us to maximize our financial contributions to the families. That being said, we cannot do this alone!! We are always looking for donations to better assist the families and to continue our mission of helping those in a great time of need!! Please consider donating today. All donations are tax exempt and documentation is available upon request.
